TS files won’t play in VLC? Read this article to get possible solutions.
VLC can play a lot formats “out of the box” with no special settings(Read more feature of VLC from here.). But when I view TS files in VLC, it failed. I bought a new DVB-S(2) receiver and recorded some .ts files. The VLC just did nothing. Just showed the VLC logo. It’s regardless if I open the files by doubleclick or drag and drop. Searching high and low in VLC forum, I got some possible solutions.
Actually, TS(Transport Stream) video container is supported by VLC, but it still exist some issues. As Matroska (MKV), you can put almost anything in a TS container, so some extra info, unsupported codec could cause the playback issue. I rounded up the possible ways to solve TS file in VLC issues. If you’re also stuck in the trouble, check one by one.
Method 1. Try processing your file through ffmpeg ( >ffmpeg -i out.ts -c: copy out_ffmpeg.ts ) and then resulting file (out_ffmpeg.ts). The file, after processing was smaller and played properly with VLC player.
Method 2. If you have high definition (HD) video content in .TS format, there are some reasons why you would experience choppy playback with VLC media player. One reported issue is possible video problems when High Quality Audio Resampling is set in VLC’s settings.
To disable it, navigate to Settings –> Preferences in VLC. The Audio settings should be selected by default, however, you will have to select Advanced Settings in the lower right hand corner in order to see all the settings. Once you have done that, you will see that “High Quality Audio Resampling” is selected by default. This has been known to cause issues with playback particularly in older hardware, and at least with disabling it, it should take less processing power.
Method 3. If cleaning or re-setting still can’t get TS extension files to play with VLC correctly, an ultimate solution is to convert TS to a more common file format like MP4 for VLC. Brorsoft Video Converter is the utility for you. With it, you can fast convert TS to MP4, AVI that can be easily played in VLC.
